A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general elections following a national convention held in Abuja.

The decision was reached on Sunday at the faction’s convention at the A-Class Event Centre, where delegates also elected a new National Working Committee (NWC) to steer party affairs ahead of the next election cycle.

Announcing the outcome, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Elias Adikwu, said the selection was unanimous among delegates present.

“The delegates have spoken clearly. Dumebi Kachikwu is hereby adopted as the sole presidential candidate of this faction for the 2027 elections,” Adikwu said.

The newly elected National Chairman of the faction, Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, formally presented the party flag to Kachikwu, describing the moment as a reset for the group’s political direction.

“This flag represents our confidence in his leadership and our commitment to repositioning the party ahead of 2027,” Bashir stated.

Kachikwu, in his acceptance remarks, pledged to unify supporters of the faction and strengthen its electoral structure ahead of the polls.

“This is a responsibility I accept with seriousness. Our focus now is building a platform that can compete effectively and restore confidence in our party,” he said.

The convention also produced a new lineup of national officers drawn from across the country. The positions include Board of Trustees Chairman Kingsley Oggah, Deputy National Chairman Johnny Tovie Derek, National Secretary Kennedy O. Odion, National Treasurer Joe Aroh, National Financial Secretary Amirigoye, National Legal Adviser Chris Ugwu, National Organising Secretary Elias Adikwu, and National Chief Whip Patrick Ambut.

The development comes amid a continuing leadership dispute within the ADC involving a rival bloc led by David Mark, which has also laid claim to the party’s structure.

The Mark-led faction recently held its own convention in Abuja, where it reportedly amended the party constitution and named Mark as National Chairman. That gathering also drew prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as part of broader coalition discussions ahead of 2027.
