One person was reportedly injured and three windows of two Sienna vehicles bearing the images of Peter Obi and Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene were smashed during an alleged attack on Anyamene’s supporters in Obosi, Anambra State, on Tuesday, October 20.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. during a birthday gathering organised by members of the group, according to a statement by Eric Anyamene Media.
The statement alleged that the confrontation began when a man attempted to record one of the vehicles. After the supporters reportedly objected, the situation escalated into an attack.
The alleged attackers were identified as Somadina Anene, popularly known as Akurienne, Chukwuemeka Oforagu and others. The statement further linked them to Nnamdi Ifebi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Idemili North and Idemili South Federal Constituency.
According to eyewitness accounts cited in the statement, the attackers wielded an axe and smashed three windows of the vehicles. One supporter was also reportedly injured.
No response from Ifebi or the other individuals named was available at the time of writing. It was also unclear whether the police had received a formal complaint or commenced an investigation.
The incident has renewed concerns about political violence and the safety of supporters as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Eric Anyamene Media called on the Anambra State Police Command to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that appropriate legal action is taken.
The group also urged Anyamene’s supporters to remain calm and avoid retaliation, while calling on political leaders to discourage violence among their followers.
