Anthropic has acquired Stainless, a company that builds SDK, CLI and Model Context Protocol server tooling. The deal reflects a wider truth about AI agents: they are only useful when they can reliably connect to the systems people and companies already use.
Stainless has worked on official Anthropic SDK generation, helping developers interact with Claude through native-feeling libraries across programming languages. By bringing the team inside Anthropic, Claude's platform gains deeper control over the developer experience around APIs and tools.
Agent connectivity is becoming infrastructure
The next phase of AI competition is not only model quality. It is also connectivity. Agents need safe access to databases, calendars, files, payment systems, customer records, APIs and internal tools. If those connections are unreliable, the agent remains limited to conversation.
MCP has emerged as one of the standards trying to solve that problem. It gives agents a structured way to discover and use tools, but standards still require good implementation. That is where SDK quality, documentation and security controls become important.
