Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Idemili North/South Federal Constituency, has agreed to sponsor the 2026 Annual Igbo Language Essay Competition for secondary school students in the constituency.
The competition, organised annually by the Anambra Central People’s Forum, is held in honour of Engr. Dr. Emeka Muoma Ezeh, OFR, an indigene of Idemili and a prominent figure in Anambra State.
The sponsorship was announced in a statement issued in Idemili, Anambra State, on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The initiative is focused on encouraging the use of the Igbo language among young people while providing students with an opportunity to demonstrate their writing and academic skills in their indigenous language.
Hon. Chief Chukwuma Mbelu, spokesperson and head of the Public Relations Desk of the Anambra Central People’s Forum, said Anyamene’s sponsorship would support both cultural preservation and youth development.
“By sponsoring the competition, Engr. Eric Anyamene is not only celebrating our rich heritage but also providing a vital platform for our young ones to express their ideas and showcase their academic brilliance in our native language,” Mbelu said.
The forum said the sponsorship was consistent with Anyamene’s stated priorities of educational development, youth engagement and preservation of cultural heritage.
It also commended his community-focused activities and described investment in education and indigenous language development as important to the future of young people in the constituency.
Community leaders, traditional rulers, teachers, parents and school administrators also welcomed the competition, saying initiatives of the kind could help sustain proficiency in Igbo among younger generations.
The 2026 Annual Igbo Language Essay Competition for secondary school students in Idemili North and Idemili South Local Government Areas is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 23, 2026.If you want, I can also make the **headline more punchy and newspaper-like** while keeping it factual.
