The Delta State Police Command has arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and four other people in connection with the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a deputy director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.
The development was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the police, the latest arrests bring the number of suspects currently in custody over the case to five.
The command also declared two other individuals wanted for questioning: Clementine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, the commissioner’s driver.
The police said the two individuals were needed to assist with the ongoing investigation and urged them to report to investigators without delay.
“Their presence is required in furtherance of the investigation,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Samuel E. Erale, said the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and impartially. He added that anyone found culpable would face justice.
The command also assured Adeda’s family and members of the public that due process would be followed in establishing the circumstances surrounding his death.
The police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of Adeda’s death or the specific allegations against those arrested.
