The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that its official X account was compromised in a cyberattack.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Director of Defence Information, Samaila Uba, said the military is treating the incident as a cybersecurity matter.

Uba said the DHQ had activated appropriate technical measures to secure the account, block further unauthorised access and restore full control.

He also warned members of the public against relying on posts published from the account while the security breach is being addressed.

“Consequently, members of the public are advised to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that may be posted from the account during this period,” the statement said.

The DHQ said it remains committed to protecting information security and providing the public with accurate information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The military urged the public to remain vigilant and said further updates would be issued as necessary.

In the meantime, the DHQ directed members of the public to use its official Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp channels for verified information.
