Former Big Brother Africa housemate, Bayo Okoh, has died.
His death was announced on Saturday by media personality Matilda Duncan, who shared photographs of the former reality TV star on social media.
Duncan did not disclose the cause or circumstances surrounding Okoh’s death.
Reacting to the news, she expressed concern over the number of deaths recently recorded in the entertainment industry.
“Please God, what is happening? This is too much—one death after another. I am so sorry. This part is called death. It’s the worst,” she wrote.
Okoh represented Nigeria in the first season of Big Brother Africa, which premiered in 2003. He was an economist and one of the 12 contestants who took part in the inaugural edition of the reality television show.
The first season featured housemates from 12 African countries and lasted 106 days, with Zambia’s Cherise Makubale emerging as the winner.
Okoh spent 91 days in the competition before his eviction, finishing seventh. Records from the show identified him as a 28-year-old economist at the time.
His participation made him one of the early Nigerian faces on the Big Brother Africa platform, which went on to become one of the continent’s most popular reality television franchises.
Following news of his death, fans and social media users have shared tributes, with many recalling his appearance on the show.
As of press time, no statement had been released by Okoh’s family confirming the cause of his death.
