Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has enlisted in the United States Army, describing the achievement as the fulfilment of a long-held personal goal inspired by his late father.

Momodu announced the milestone on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself in military uniform after completing the US Army's 10-week Basic Combat Training.

According to the actor, his decision to join the military was driven by a desire to continue his father's legacy. His father served in the Nigeria Police Force before his death 20 years ago.

Reflecting on the experience, Momodu said the training tested him physically and mentally, as he endured weeks of intense drills, fatigue, harsh weather and limited communication with the outside world.

"From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits," he wrote.

"There were moments of doubt and times I questioned myself, 'Who send me message sef?' But I never lost sight of the finish line. We trained tirelessly, were broken down and rebuilt. I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier."

He revealed that he was enlisted into the US Army on April 12, 2026, describing it as a symbolic moment that honoured his late father.

"Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army," he said.

Momodu also expressed gratitude to God for helping him pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) examination on his first attempt and complete Basic Combat Training. He dedicated the achievement to his late father, his family and the royal family of Oba Momodu of the Avhiele Clan in Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

He also thanked the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California, and those who managed his social media accounts while he was away for training.

Momodu joins a growing number of Nollywood actors who have pursued military service in the United States. Actress Princess Chineke enlisted in the US Army in 2024.
