Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that figures within the political structure linked to Peter Obi were involved in financial inducements during recent primary elections.
Okonkwo, a member of the African Democratic Congress, made the allegation during an interview on Channels Television, where he claimed he received direct evidence from an aspirant in Anambra State.
He said the information came through a House of Representatives aspirant, Obunike Ohaegbu, who contested under the Nigerian Democratic Congress platform for the Nnewi North and Nnewi South federal constituency.
According to him, the aspirant sent a message describing what he called irregular financial demands during the primaries.
Okonkwo quoted the message as saying: “Peter Obi is now the head of the criminality that they were scammed in NDC.”
He also claimed the aspirant compared the process with other political arrangements, saying: “Kwankwaso went to his people and made sure that every constituency produced one candidate so that they are not scammed.”
On the structure of payments, Okonkwo further alleged: “After paying for the expression of interest forms, you must pay N10 million for Reps and N20 million for Senate.”
He added that aspirants were later informed of additional steps despite earlier assurances on payment rules, stating: “When all of them paid, thinking they were the candidates, they were told to go for the primary.”
Okonkwo also claimed that candidate lists were being compiled during the process, alleging: “Peter Obi was in the hotel writing names of candidates.”
He said the aspirant provided what he described as receipts as proof of payment.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and none of the individuals named in the claims have issued a response to the specific accusations at the time of filing this report.
