The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy, identified as Udochukwu Nwankwo, in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a hotel in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area.
Nwankwo was arrested by operatives attached to the B Division, Amansea, during a security patrol in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2.
Police said the suspect was allegedly involved in an attack on a hotel guest, during which the victim’s mobile phone and other personal belongings were reportedly stolen.
The police also recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed to resemble a pistol. According to the command, the suspect allegedly used the object to threaten the victim during the robbery.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Nwankwo allegedly carried out the operation with two other suspects, who are currently at large.
The police said the teenager allegedly admitted during interrogation that he used the pistol-shaped lighter to threaten victims during robbery operations.
Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said investigation had been intensified to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
He added that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, recover the stolen mobile phone and other valuables, and prosecute anyone found culpable.
