Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), barely one year after defecting to the ruling party.
Fadeyi announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, stating that his decision takes immediate effect. He cited an alleged breach of agreements, lack of internal democracy and loss of confidence in the leadership of the APC in Osun State as reasons for leaving the party.
The senator joined the APC in July 2025 after leaving the PDP, citing internal crises, prolonged litigations and leadership challenges within his former party.
Explaining his latest decision, Fadeyi said he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his ancestral home, which falls within the Osun Central Senatorial District. He claimed that he was assured of securing the party's senatorial ticket for the 2027 election.
According to him, there was an understanding that President Tinubu had approved his return ticket and communicated the decision to the party leadership in Osun State. He said he expected the agreement to be honoured in line with the principles of fairness, equity and internal democracy.
However, Fadeyi alleged that the Osun APC leadership failed to conduct the promised consensus process and transparent primary election, creating serious trust issues that made his continued membership of the party impossible.
He expressed disappointment that while another serving senator and three members of the House of Representatives who defected alongside him were reportedly granted return tickets, his own ticket was withheld without explanation.
The lawmaker noted that he had earned the confidence of voters in Osun Central after defeating an incumbent APC senator during the 2023 general election and believed his performance, loyalty and electoral value should have been fairly considered.
Fadeyi also lost the APC senatorial ticket for the 2027 election to Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Kunle Adegoke, during the party's primary held in May 2026.
Despite his resignation from the APC, the senator maintained that he remains fully committed to President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda. He stressed that his departure from the party should not be interpreted as opposition to the President or his administration.
