A young footballer, Salisu Muhammed, has died after collapsing during a morning training session in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident happened on Monday at the Massalacin Edi football field in the Alikazaure community, where he had joined others for routine drills. Witnesses said he suddenly went down while play was ongoing, bringing the session to an immediate halt.

A teammate, Abba Abdullahi, said efforts were made to assist him before he was taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.

“He was playing football when he suddenly slumped. He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,” he said.

The news drew a crowd of friends, teammates and residents who gathered in shock at the field. Many described the development as sudden and difficult to process.

Muhammed, who lived in Anguwan Rogo, was known among peers as “Achilata.” He is survived by his parents, wife and four children.

He was laid to rest later the same day at Babale Cemetery in Jos according to Islamic burial rites.
