A former governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, has alleged that political forces in Southern Nigeria are mobilising against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Osoba made the remarks on Monday at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta during the announcement of the APC presidential primary results in Ogun State.
According to the former governor, the plan is to field multiple presidential candidates from the South in order to divide votes that could favour Tinubu.
In the APC primary conducted across Ogun State’s 20 local government areas, Tinubu secured 322,485 votes, while his challenger, Stanley Osifo, recorded no votes.
The result was announced by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who served as the state coordinator and collation officer for the exercise.
Several APC leaders attended the event, including Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare Iziak Salako, Senator Solomon Adeola, Senator Shuaib Salisu and state APC chairman Yemi Sanusi.
Speaking before the announcement of the results, Osoba warned APC members against assuming the party faced no serious opposition ahead of the next general election.
He said claims that Tinubu had no challengers were misleading and could encourage complacency within the ruling party.
Osoba specifically mentioned Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde and former President Goodluck Jonathan as figures whose political ambitions could split Southern votes.
“There is a strong gang-up against us,” Osoba said. “They are plotting to field several candidates from our region in the South.”
He also urged APC members in Ogun State to mobilise support for Tinubu, citing federal projects executed in the state under the current administration.
