Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has explained why she frequently plays witches, wicked women and other antagonistic characters in Nollywood films.
Ozokwor said the roles are part of what she believes is a divinely assigned niche, adding that she uses such characters to highlight the consequences of bad behaviour.
The actress spoke during a livestreamed interview with content creator Carter Efe.
“I think God gave me that niche. I hate every ill because I don’t like injustice, war, and rancour. When you give me those roles, I try to bring everything into them,” Ozokwor said.
She explained that her portrayal of villains is intended to communicate lessons about the consequences of one's actions.
“If you are taking part in any of them, you have to be careful and know the end thereof, for the end justifies the means. Know what will happen to you if you live a terrible life, and know what you will gain if you are a good person,” she added.
According to the actress, she approaches such roles deliberately, using her performances to expose the consequences of wrongdoing.
Ozokwor described her portrayal of villainous characters as a form of social instruction, allowing audiences to reflect on the effects of their choices through storytelling.
