A coroner's inquest in the United Kingdom has concluded that a 27-year-old Nigerian mother, Beatrice Solomon, died by suicide following a prolonged struggle with her mental health.

Beatrice was found unresponsive at her home on Norris Road, Stanfield, Stoke-on-Trent, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

According to evidence presented at the inquest, her husband, 40-year-old Damian Michael Butler, left home for his delivery job at about 4:30 p.m. He returned around two hours later to use the bathroom and found his wife unresponsive.

Police Constable Hinchliffe told the hearing that paramedics arrived shortly afterward, but Beatrice was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:21 p.m. Investigators found no evidence of third-party involvement.

Giving evidence, Butler said his wife had experienced mental health challenges over the previous year, which he linked to ongoing issues involving Stoke-on-Trent City Council. He also told the inquest that he later discovered she had made two previous attempts to take her own life.

Pathologist Dr. Jones said Beatrice died from oxygen deprivation.

Delivering her conclusion, Coroner Li Hammond-Naylor ruled that Beatrice died as a result of suicide.

"It is clear to me that Beatrice had researched and planned how to take her own life. I can only extend my sincere condolences to Beatrice's family and friends," the coroner said.

Beatrice, who worked as a carer, moved from Nigeria to Stoke-on-Trent in November 2023. She is survived by her young son and siblings.
