Vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would withdraw from the 2027 presidential race as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate and campaign for President Bola Tinubu if petrol sells for ₦600 per litre by Saturday.

Amaechi made the statement on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, where he criticised the Tinubu administration over the rising cost of living and the impact of the removal of petrol subsidy on Nigerians.

He challenged the administration to bring down the pump price of petrol to ₦600 per litre, saying he would personally verify the price at a filling station.

“Tomorrow, if you are doubtful, come with your camera tomorrow in the morning and I will go to a filling station and I will buy fuel. If it comes down to this thing, I, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, will withdraw as the vice-presidential candidate of Atiku and campaign for President Tinubu if it has come down,” he said.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, also criticised the administration’s infrastructure record, arguing that its project delivery should not be compared with that of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

He further described the 2027 presidential election as a choice between “life and death”, accusing the Tinubu administration of worsening the economic difficulties facing Nigerians.

According to Amaechi, “Tinubu represents the choice of death.”

His comments come amid continuing political debate over petrol prices, the removal of fuel subsidy and the wider economic impact of the Tinubu administration’s policies ahead of the 2027 elections.
