The Anambra State Police Command has ordered the issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the 3-3 Police Station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) over the alleged failure to account for an armed robbery suspect reportedly arrested and taken to the station.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, also ordered disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police in connection with the incident.
The directives were issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, after the commissioner personally interviewed the complainant and police officers involved in the matter.
The development followed a viral video alleging that an armed robbery suspect who had been arrested and brought to the 3-3 Police Station could no longer be accounted for.
CP Nnanna described the allegation as serious, saying incidents of this nature could undermine public confidence in the police. He said the command would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or violations of established police procedures.
The commissioner subsequently directed the Command's X-Squad to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect's arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts.
The investigation will also examine the roles and responsibilities of the police officers involved.
According to the command, operational measures have been put in place to facilitate the arrest of the suspect. The police also said the public would be informed of the outcome of the investigation once the facts are established.
The commissioner cautioned members of the public against circulating unverified information that could interfere with or prejudice the investigation. He stressed the need for the matter to be addressed through due process.
CP Nnanna reiterated that accountability remains a key part of his leadership of the command and that all police officers are subject to scrutiny and established disciplinary procedures.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in Awka, on October 6, 2026.
