The Nigerian Army, working with the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team, has dismantled a Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist camp in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday following intelligence on terrorist activities in the area.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters, killing more than 21 fighters, according to the military. Several others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
The Army said troops also destroyed the terrorists’ logistics facilities and recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition.
Motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit were also destroyed during the operation.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation was linked to ongoing efforts to locate and rescue people abducted from Mussa community and the Lassa area.
Goni said Operation Hadin Kai would continue to conduct intelligence-led operations to dismantle terrorist strongholds, disrupt their logistics and weaken their operational capacity.
He added that search and rescue efforts had been intensified to locate and recover all abducted persons.
The military high command commended the troops and the ONSA Tactical Team for their coordination and performance during the operation, saying the raid demonstrated the forces’ ability to conduct operations in difficult terrain and restrict the movement of terrorists.
