A High Court in Ekiti State has sentenced two men to death by hanging for the kidnapping of an official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), while acquitting a third defendant due to insufficient evidence.

The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, delivered the judgment on Wednesday, convicting Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar for the abduction of Omoboade Adesina, which occurred on April 22, 2022.

The court held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, relying on evidence including an identification parade and analysis of call data records, which linked the two convicts to the crime.

A third defendant, Usman Abubakar, was discharged and acquitted after the court found that the prosecution failed to establish his involvement in the kidnapping.

The three suspects were arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) before being arraigned in court.

Justice Ogunmoye ruled that Ibrahim and Abdullahi should be executed by hanging in accordance with the law.
