Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, has accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of attempting to stop him from contesting the next presidential election.

Obi made the allegation on Friday, hours after the Federal High Court in Lokoja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the NDC over a logo infringement dispute.

Speaking at Madonna University in Anambra State, Obi claimed the federal government was using state institutions to frustrate his political ambition.

"Today, the federal government is doing everything possible to stop me from becoming a candidate in this 2027 election. I can tell you for a fact they won't win," he said.

His comments came shortly after the court set aside its earlier judgment and directed INEC to remove the NDC from the list of registered political parties.

Despite the development, Obi urged his supporters not to be discouraged, saying challenges are part of life's journey. He encouraged them to remain focused on their goals rather than their current difficulties.

Obi was the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, where he finished third after polling 6,101,533 votes, representing 25.40 percent of the total votes cast. He joined the Labour Party only a few months before that election.
