A joint air operation involving Nigerian forces under Operation HADIN KAI and the United States Africa Command, AFRICOM has reportedly killed 21 suspected members of ISWAP in Borno State.

The strike was carried out on May 30 in Arege, Kukawa Local Government Area, after intelligence reports indicated that armed fighters were using the area as a base. Military sources said surveillance operations confirmed the presence and movement of the group before the air mission was approved.

According to security sources cited by counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama, the targeted location served as a coordination point for planning attacks across the Lake Chad region. The air operation hit the camp during the mission window, leading to the reported deaths of 21 militants.

Officials said the facility had been used to support logistics and attack planning, and its destruction is expected to disrupt ongoing operations in the wider Lake Chad Basin. The area has remained a recurring operational zone for armed groups attempting to regroup and launch raids on surrounding communities.

Military sources described the action as part of continued security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States focused on degrading insurgent capability through intelligence-led strikes and joint operational support.

They added that the outcome reflects sustained coordination in surveillance and targeting, aimed at reducing the mobility and operational strength of armed groups in the North-East.
