The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected reports that it does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the reports as false and aimed at weakening public perception of its growing political presence across the country.

According to the NDC, it has duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to take place in 2027.

The party also said it has political structures, candidates and supporters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stressing that it is positioning itself as a national movement rather than a regional party.

The NDC specifically named its candidates in the 12 states where its participation had reportedly been questioned.

The candidates are:

1. Zamfara – Senator Kabiru Marafa
2. Borno – Rtd. Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim
3. Cross River – Hon. John Odey
4. Akwa Ibom – Babanta Michael Okon
5. Ebonyi – Nwofe Boniface
6. Plateau – Yakubu Solomon Ndam
7. Katsina – Ilu-Barde Aliyu
8. Kebbi – Alhaji Umar Usman Besse
9. Yobe – Jonga Yahaya Gabakau
10. Jigawa – Dutse Aminu Sani
11. Taraba – Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani
12. Niger – Abdu Sidi Bomi

Director urged media organisations, journalists, bloggers and other content creators to verify information before publishing reports about the NDC and the 2027 elections.

“Journalism thrives on truth, not rumours. Peddling unverified propaganda only erodes public trust in the media and in our democracy,” he said.

He said the party would remain focused on issue-based politics and would not allow what he described as “sponsored falsehoods” to distract it from its preparations for the 2027 elections.

According to the spokesman, the NDC is seeking to position itself as an alternative to the existing political order and is building its structures ahead of the election.

“The NDC is the preferred party to salvage Nigeria. With credible candidates, a clear manifesto, and a commitment to security, jobs, and accountability, we are ready to rescue and rebuild this nation in 2027,” Director said.

He called on Nigerians to support the party, saying its campaign to gain political power in 2027 had already begun.
