Former lawmaker Dino Melaye has criticised President Bola Tinubu for appointing himself chairman of the APC 2027 presidential campaign council.

The APC campaign council list released on Saturday named Tinubu as chairman, with Vice President Kashim Shettima serving as vice chairman.

Reacting in a post on his official Facebook page, Melaye questioned why a presidential candidate would also head his own campaign council.

He said the decision showed that Tinubu did not trust members of his administration or the APC leadership.

“It is a disgrace that President Tinubu doesn’t trust anyone. He doesn’t trust himself. He is afraid of his own shadow; he doesn’t believe in anybody,” Melaye said.

The former lawmaker described the arrangement as unprecedented, arguing that a presidential candidate should not also serve as chairman of the campaign council.

“This is the first time in the history of the world that a presidential candidate of a political party will appoint himself as the chairman of his own presidential campaign council,” he said.

Melaye also claimed that Tinubu’s decision reflected concerns about the loyalty of APC governors and ministers.

“It shows that they are afraid. It shows that Tinubu knows that even the governors and ministers cannot be trusted,” he said.

He added that the president appeared determined to have campaign matters reported directly to him, describing the arrangement as “disgraceful.”
