The Federal Government has opened applications for its new digital device financing programme, allowing Nigerians to access laptops, smartphones and tablets through credit-based payments.

The initiative, known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices Programme (C.L.I.C.K.D.), is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

The programme was launched on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, alongside CREDICORP Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba.

C.L.I.C.K.D. is aimed at helping Nigerians acquire digital devices without paying the full cost upfront. Repayments will be spread over an agreed period, with the first phase focusing on locally assembled laptops as CREDICORP supports domestic manufacturing.

Who is eligible at the initial stage?

The first phase of the programme is a 1,000-laptop pilot scheme targeted at participants of the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.

CREDICORP said the first set of beneficiaries received their devices in Abuja, where 77 fellows were presented with laptops. More devices will be distributed to qualified participants in other states in phases.

Although the pilot has been linked primarily to 3MTT fellows, the application form includes other technology and skills development programmes such as Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub.

This indicates that participants from those programmes may also be considered for future phases, although CREDICORP has not confirmed their eligibility for the current 1,000-device rollout.

C.L.I.C.K.D. follows CREDICORP’s earlier consumer credit programme, which began in April 2024 with federal civil servants as the first beneficiaries before expanding to other groups.

The corporation has not yet announced the interest rates, repayment duration or any required initial payment for the digital device loans.
