Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the director-general of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), says he borrowed N100 million to secure the appointment and has since been reported to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by those who provided the funds.

Adeyemi made the disclosure during an interview on *Channels Television's* *Politics Today* on Monday while responding to questions about how he financed his activities.

According to him, the money was obtained through loans, and the lenders have now petitioned the EFCC over repayment.

"I borrowed this money. In fact, those that I borrowed this N100 million have reported to the EFCC. I borrowed this money to pay for this appointment. They have reported to the EFCC, asking me to refund their money," he said.

The PFIPC has been at the centre of controversy following questions over its legal status. The Presidency has maintained that the council does not exist and stated that Adeyemi was never appointed by the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

On July 7, President Bola Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Adeyemi also rejected allegations that he falsely claimed to have received an appointment from the United Nations, describing the reports as an attempt to damage his reputation.

He said the allegations were sponsored and urged attention to what he described as the available facts and documents.

Responding to reports that he was seeking asylum abroad with the support of a United States-based lobbying firm, Adeyemi denied any plans to leave Nigeria.

"I am still in Nigeria. I'm not going anywhere," he said.
