The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed that he did not own a personal house during his eight years as governor of Osun State.
Aregbesola made the claim while addressing supporters in a video circulated on Thursday, July 23, 2026. He said that throughout his tenure from 2010 to 2018, he lived in a house belonging to a friend.
“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state for eight years without owning a house of my own. I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as governor in my fatherland,” Aregbesola said.
He challenged anyone who disputes the claim to identify any property owned by him during his time as governor.
“Whoever says what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own,” he added.
Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018, completing two terms in office before he was appointed Minister of Interior by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
