The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The commission announced that the deadline, originally scheduled to end on July 11, has been shifted by three days to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
INEC disclosed the extension in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to the commission, the decision followed a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which appealed on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates' details within the original timeframe.
INEC said the extension is intended to allow all political parties to complete the submission process while remaining within the legal timetable for the elections.
The commission urged parties yet to submit their candidates' information to use the additional time to complete the process before the new deadline expires.
