A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, has formally ratified former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was made during a special national convention held at the party's national office in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
The faction had initially planned to hold the convention at the A-Class Event Centre in Wuse II but was unable to use the venue. Organisers subsequently moved the event to the party's office, where delegates proceeded with the ratification.
Party leaders described the exercise as a formal affirmation, stating that Jonathan had already emerged as the faction's consensus candidate at an earlier meeting. They added that a date for the official presentation of the party's flag to the former president would be announced later.
Jonathan was not present at the convention. However, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Bayelsa State lawmaker Fred Agbedi, a member of the House of Representatives.
The development highlights the growing divisions within the PDP as different blocs continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
