The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, has expelled two students over alleged involvement in gay practice and rusticated four others for one academic session following separate disciplinary offences.
The university’s Information, Public Relations and Protocols Unit disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the decisions were reached by the institution’s Senate after considering recommendations from the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
The sanctions were approved at the Senate’s 31st Regular Meeting held at the Faculty of Law Lecture Theatre.
According to the statement, letters communicating the disciplinary decisions were signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Mr Eli Usman Gbadafu, in accordance with provisions of the Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025.
The expelled students were identified as Onumoko Hamza from the Department of Biology Education, with matriculation number 23L1BE0945, and Abdulazeez Lukman Eneji from the Department of Mining Engineering, with matriculation number 23L1MN0088.
The four students rusticated for one academic session over campus fighting are Favor Akowe of the Department of Microbiology (24L1MC2212); Simbiat Babamuharuna of the Department of Biology (25L1BL4453); Zainab Salami Omayoza of the Department of Biochemistry (24L1BC1277); and Sukura Bukola, also of the Department of Biochemistry (25L1BC4352).
The university management said the disciplinary measures were part of efforts to maintain order, uphold institutional standards and create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
It warned that students found guilty of violating the institution’s rules and regulations would face appropriate sanctions.
The management also urged students to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and comply with the university’s guidelines.
