The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has selected actress and film producer Esther Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Okereke emerged as the party’s candidate through a consensus process at the NRM primary held on Friday in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, NRM National Chairman Chinedu Obi said Okereke was the only aspirant who successfully met the party’s screening requirements.

According to Obi, while some aspirants did not satisfy the conditions set by the screening committee, their participation contributed to the party’s internal democratic process.

He also acknowledged the interest of Nigerians in the diaspora in the party’s agenda, expressing confidence that collective efforts could help restore Nigeria’s standing and development.

In her acceptance speech, Okereke outlined a policy agenda focused on education, energy, economic development, security, healthcare, housing, technology, transparency, entrepreneurship, employment creation, and social welfare.

She said her proposed framework for national renewal would also prioritise human capital development, sustainable growth, restitution, recovery, and national reorientation.

Okereke described the NRM as a movement aimed at driving generational change through youth participation, ethical leadership, and institutional reforms.

She added that the party believes meaningful national transformation requires greater inclusion of younger people and women in leadership, alongside a governance system built on accountability, equity, and sustainable development.
