The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has convened an emergency meeting with native doctors, traditional priests, and priestesses as concerns grow over worsening insecurity in Edo State and across Nigeria.

The meeting, scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, will take place at the Oba's Palace in Benin City.

The directive was announced in a statement issued on Friday by Victor Nosakhare on behalf of the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor.

According to the palace, the meeting was called on the instruction of the monarch and is expected to explore how traditional institutions can support government efforts to address the security challenges.

In a related development, the Benin Traditional Council will also meet with youth leaders, known as Okaighele, at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at the Oba's Palace.

The meetings come amid growing concerns over kidnapping, cult-related violence, and other security threats in Edo State, reflecting the palace's efforts to mobilise traditional institutions in support of ongoing security initiatives.
