A 300-level university student, Sunday Adamu Hussaini, has reportedly died after he was allegedly stabbed by suspected phone snatchers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The incident occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026, within MD Abubakar Barracks, Jibi, along the Dei Dei axis of Abuja.

According to reports, Hussaini had returned from church and went to visit a friend. While taking photographs with his newly acquired iPhone 16, he was allegedly approached by suspects said to have been disguised as scavengers.

The attackers reportedly demanded his phone at knifepoint. During a struggle over the device, Hussaini was allegedly stabbed.

Residents rushed the victim to a hospital, but he reportedly died on the way, according to *Nigerian Tribune*.

One of the suspects was apprehended by residents and beaten by an angry crowd before police officers arrived at the scene. Witnesses said tension escalated after news of the student's death spread, prompting officers to fire tear gas canisters to disperse the gathering and take the suspect into custody.

The FCT Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time this report was filed.

A relative of the deceased, Dan Sanni, confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, describing Hussaini as a promising young man whose life was cut short.

"Gone too soon. Today, we lost my nephew, Sunday Adamu Hussaini, a 300-level university student. A young man full of life. He went to morning service this Sunday with hope in his heart," Sanni wrote.

He added that Hussaini had been preparing to return to school before the attack.

"He was meant to return to school tomorrow. Instead, while taking a stroll around the Dei Dei Police Barracks at about 9:30 a.m., a criminal disguised as a scavenger snatched his phone. In the struggle, he was stabbed, and just like that, his life was cut short."

The grieving relative described Hussaini as "ambitious, gentle and full of dreams," adding that his death had left the family devastated while calling for justice.
