The Cross River State Police Command has released a photograph of an unidentified woman who was found dead in a hotel in Calabar South and appealed to members of the public for information that could help establish her identity.
The woman was discovered in a hotel located along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, earlier in September.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said preliminary investigations indicated that the woman had checked into the hotel with a male guest whose whereabouts are currently unknown.
According to the police, efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased, locate the man who accompanied her to the hotel and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The receptionist who was on duty when the woman was discovered remains in police custody and is assisting investigators with information about the guests’ arrival and events leading up to the discovery.
The police stressed that the receptionist’s detention does not amount to a declaration of guilt, adding that any further action will be based on evidence gathered during the investigation and in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directed investigators to conduct the case professionally and objectively.
The command is now asking anyone who recognises the woman from the released photograph or has information about her family, associates or the male guest to contact the police.
