Two residents have been killed and several others injured after gunmen attacked Rumuodogo 2 Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State in the early hours of Monday.
The motive for the attack was not immediately known. However, residents said the assailants moved from house to house in search of specific individuals.
A resident, identified only as Monica, said her husband was among those attacked. She alleged that the gunmen came from a neighbouring community in another local government area bordering Rumuodogo 2.
According to her, the attackers stormed their home at about 1 a.m., forced their way inside after breaking down the door, and dragged her and her husband outside.
She said her husband was shot in the stomach and leg but survived the attack and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. Monica added that two other residents were killed during the incident.
She called on the Rivers State Police Command to investigate the attack and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and said an investigation has begun to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
