The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of the U.S. Independence Day holiday.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria announced the temporary closure on Thursday through its official social media channels, informing the public that both diplomatic offices will suspend services for the day.

According to the mission, the closure is to mark Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July.

The annual holiday commemorates the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, when the 13 American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain.

Regular operations at the embassy in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos are expected to resume after the public holiday.
