The Presidency has reacted strongly to an alleged audio recording linked to President Bola Tinubu, calling for legal action against social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM.

In a statement released on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga said the influencer should be held accountable for spreading what he described as a fake recording.

He said the content amounted to misuse of digital platforms and warned that such actions could damage public trust and national stability.

Onanuga stated: “This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform.”

The controversy began after VDM posted a video claiming to feature an audio recording allegedly of President Tinubu speaking on insecurity, politics, and the 2027 elections. The clip included claims about governance decisions, foreign borrowing, and political negotiations.

In parts of the recording, a voice attributed to the President made remarks about political opposition, insecurity in the South-East, and international loans.

The Presidency dismissed the audio as fabricated, insisting it was designed to mislead the public.

Onanuga further warned that unchecked circulation of manipulated content online could escalate tensions and threaten democratic stability.

As of reporting time, no legal proceedings have been confirmed, and VDM has not issued a response.
