An 18-month-old girl has been killed in Agoti farm settlement in Idanre, Ondo State, in a case police say is under investigation following the arrest of a suspect.

The child, identified as the daughter of Bright Kalu, a farmer from Abia State, was reported missing on Monday, June 8, 2026, after an attack at the family’s farm camp.

Kalu said he was away from the settlement to purchase food when the incident occurred. On his return, he met his wife in distress. She reported that an unknown attacker had entered their camp, assaulted her, and that she managed to escape with three of their children, while one child could not be accounted for.

A search was launched immediately by the father and a relative. The child’s body was later discovered behind the family’s residence.

The matter was first reported at the Olofin Police Station in Idanre before being transferred to the State Police Command headquarters in Akure for further investigation.

Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody. He said detectives are continuing their investigation and that the suspect will be charged in court once inquiries are completed.

Kalu has called on security agencies and relevant authorities to ensure accountability as the investigation progresses.
