Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has met with the party’s governorship, senatorial and other candidates from across the country as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi hosted the candidates alongside the party’s vice-presidential candidate and former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, according to Obi, focused on strategies to expand the party’s presence beyond major cities and reach voters in rural communities and other underserved areas.
Obi disclosed the meeting in a post on his X account on Tuesday.
He said he assured the candidates of his continued support in their respective states and constituencies, adding that he would work with them to lay the groundwork for the party’s electoral campaign.
Obi also described his partnership with Kwankwaso as an effort to change the direction of the country’s leadership.
He outlined some of the priorities of the partnership as reducing poverty, addressing the number of out-of-school children, supporting small and medium-sized businesses, improving national security and promoting unity.
According to Obi, the NDC also intends to shift Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy towards increased domestic production.
The meeting comes as political parties and candidates intensify preparations and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
