The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed that it has submitted the names and personal details of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the commission’s nomination portal.

The party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the development in a statement shared on X on Tuesday night, describing the submission as a key step in the party's preparations for the 2027 general election.

 "We are pleased to announce that we have successfully uploaded the names and particulars of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and our vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi (CON), to the nomination portal of INEC," Abdullahi said.

He added that the submission reflects the party's commitment to presenting what he described as "a credible alternative built on competence, unity, and national renewal."

Atiku emerged as the ADC's presidential candidate after winning the party's primary election held on May 27. He secured 1,846,370 votes to defeat former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who scored 504,117 votes, and former Managing Director of the defunct FSB International Bank, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who polled 177,120 votes.

Following his victory, Atiku called for unity within the party.

 "There is no winner and no vanquished. I urge Hayatu-Deen and Amaechi to close ranks and join me in the fight to rescue Nigeria's democracy," he said after receiving the party's flag.

The ADC formally unveiled Amaechi as Atiku's running mate on June 16.

Explaining the decision, Abdullahi said the choice followed broad consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, as well as representatives from the country's six geopolitical zones.

"The decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives of all geopolitical zones," Abdullahi said.

He also described Amaechi as "one of Nigeria's most experienced and respected political leaders" with broad support across the party.
