The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Chidi Chidebe, has resigned from his position.
Mr Chidebe announced his resignation in a letter dated 27 August and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP Interim National Working Committee.
His resignation takes effect from 27 August.
Mr Chidebe was elected chairman of the Anambra PDP at a party congress held on 24 October 2024.
He said his decision to step down followed consultations with his family, close associates and other stakeholders.
According to him, the disagreements and legal disputes surrounding the party’s national leadership had created an increasingly difficult environment for him to effectively perform his responsibilities as state chairman.
“Having given the matter considerable thought and having served to the best of my ability, I believe that stepping aside at this point is in the best interest of my personal peace, and the party at large,” he said.
Mr Chidebe thanked God for the opportunity to serve and expressed appreciation to members of the state executive committee, local government chairpersons, ward executives and other PDP members for their support during his tenure.
He described his time as chairman as a privilege, saying the experience and relationships he gained while in office were valuable.
His resignation comes amid continuing disagreements and legal disputes over the leadership of the PDP at the national level.
