The Chairman of Pantami Ward in Gombe Local Government Area, Bala Ngalda, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Ngalda, who was the APC ward chairman, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 27 and addressed to the party’s ward secretary. He said the decision followed consultations with his family and asked the party leadership to respect his choice.
He thanked the APC lead toership at the local, state, and national levels for the opportunity to serve, as well as the Gombe State Government for its support during his tenure.
“I wish to use this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the party at the local government, state, and national levels for the opportunity given to me to serve in this capacity,” Mr Ngalda wrote.
He added that although he was leaving the party, he would continue to respect its ideals and wished it success.
The ward’s legal adviser, Babangida Gololo, also resigned his position and membership of the APC to join the PDP.
The two former APC officials declared support for Isa Pantami, the PDP governorship candidate in Gombe State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Their defection follows the recent move by Aliyu Turaki, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, who also joined the PDP and endorsed Mr Pantami.
Mr Pantami’s defection from the ruling APC to the opposition PDP has reshaped the political landscape in Gombe, with several politicians changing alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
With Governor Inuwa Yahaya approaching the end of his second term, further political movements are expected as parties position themselves for the next electoral contest.
