The Nigerian Army has arrested a soldier declared wanted over alleged involvement in the sale and supply of military uniforms to terrorists and other criminal groups.
Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Army Ordnance Kits Factory, Lagos, was arrested on Monday by troops of the 7 Provost Group in Maiduguri, Borno State, while allegedly attempting to cross into the Republic of Cameroon.
The Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement, saying preliminary investigations showed that Yusuf absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026.
According to Goni, the arrest followed intelligence-led operations and reflected the Army’s efforts to enforce discipline and accountability among its personnel.
He said the suspect is currently being held by the 7 Provost Group, where further investigations are underway to establish the extent of his alleged activities and identify any individuals who may have worked with him.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to maintaining professionalism, accountability and integrity among its personnel,” Goni said, adding that there would be no protection for anyone involved in terrorism or criminal activities, regardless of their position.
The military spokesperson said ongoing counter-insurgency operations would continue to uphold the highest standards of conduct and discipline.
