Political tension in Osun State has intensified following an attack on officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Odo-Otin Local Government Area, where armed men reportedly seized Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during a distribution exercise.
The attack occurred at Oyinlola DC Primary School, Ward 2, Odo-Otin, while INEC officials were distributing PVCs to registered voters.
According to the Osun State Police Command, about 10 armed men stormed the venue, fired shots into the air and took away three packs of PVCs.
“The hoodlums reportedly fired sporadically into the air and carted away three packs of PVCs,” police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said in a statement.
The command said it has begun an investigation into the incident and deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the attackers and recover the stolen voter cards.
Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and directed that those responsible be arrested and prosecuted.
The police urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could further disrupt public peace. The command also appealed to witnesses and members of the public with useful information about the incident to contact the police through its emergency channels or report at the nearest station.
