Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has emerged as the All Progressive Congress candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial District following the party’s primary election held on Monday.
The Returning Officer, Dr Sadiq Mohammed, announced that Bello secured 72,349 votes, finishing ahead of Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke who polled 315 votes, and Momoh Yusuf Obaro who recorded 188 votes.
Vote breakdown across the five local government areas in Kogi Central showed Bello’s dominance: Adavi (18,341), Ajaokuta (10,298), Ogori (5,146), Okehi (8,943), and Okene (29,621).
The primary was conducted under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
In Kogi West, early results indicate that Senator Sunday Karimi is leading as collation continues. The contest followed the withdrawal of several prominent aspirants, including Smart Adeyemi and Samuel Bamidele Aro, before voting concluded.
In Kogi East, the incumbent senator Jibrin Isah Echocho is trailing based on partial results. He reportedly scored two votes in Dekina Local Government Area, while Joe Erico Ameh polled 19,805 votes.
Party sources describe Joe Erico Ameh as enjoying backing from key stakeholders within the state.
Separately, some contestants, including Muritala Ajaka and Echocho, have raised concerns over the conduct of the primaries, citing irregularities in procedure and guideline compliance.
