Voting in the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) National Elections has been postponed indefinitely after a cyberattack disrupted the association's electronic voting platform.

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) announced the development in the early hours of Saturday, July 18, 2026. Voting was scheduled to begin at 12:00 a.m. but could not commence following what the committee described as a deliberate and coordinated attack on its e-voting infrastructure.

According to the ECNBA, the attack was aimed at compromising the integrity of the electoral process and disrupting the conduct of the election.

The committee stated that its cybersecurity team, working alongside the Election Voting Service Provider (EVSP), has activated emergency security measures to contain the threat and restore the platform. Voting will begin immediately after the system has been secured and fully restored.

At the time of the announcement, no votes had been cast or accepted on the platform.

The ECNBA apologised to candidates, eligible voters, agents, consultants and observers for the disruption and urged members of the association to await further official updates before attempting to access the voting portal.

It also advised lawyers to use only the official voting website, [www.ecnbaovs.org.ng](http://www.ecnbaovs.org.ng), warning that any alternative links or communications could be connected to ongoing malicious activities targeting the election.

Despite the delay, the committee said candidates, agents and observers remained present at the designated monitoring centre and that electoral oversight arrangements were still in place.

The disruption has created uncertainty around the timetable for the election, which will determine the next national leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The ECNBA reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a secure and credible election and said members would be informed as soon as voting arrangements are finalised.

The statement announcing the postponement was signed by ECNBA Chairman, Aham Ejelam, SAN, and Secretary, Ibrahim Nassarawa.
