No fewer than 4,000 members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), including the party's Deputy Chairman, Okechukwu Idenyi, and Secretary, Solomon Adum, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State.

The defectors were received on Saturday during a political rally held in Isu Community, Onicha Local Government Area, by the Ebonyi State Chairman of the PDP, Chukwuma Igwe.

Addressing the gathering, Igwe said the new members would strengthen the party's structure ahead of the 2027 general election. He assured them of equal opportunities within the PDP and urged them to work with existing members to advance the party's objectives across the state.

"We assure the defectors of equal opportunities within the party. We urge you to work collectively with existing members to advance the party's objectives and provide a credible alternative for the people of Ebonyi in 2027," he said.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former NDC Secretary Solomon Adum said the decision to join the PDP followed consultations with their supporters.

According to him, the group was motivated by confidence in the PDP's commitment to democratic governance, unity and sustainable development in Ebonyi State.

He also pledged that the defectors would work with the party leadership to expand its grassroots support while promoting peace, internal democracy and issue-based politics.

Also speaking at the event, the PDP's candidate for Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Felix Igboke, welcomed the new members and urged them to remain committed to the party's activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

He expressed confidence that the PDP would record success in the next general election if members worked together toward a common goal.
