The incident was made public on Saturday via a statement shared on Facebook by Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who represented Ekiti Central Senatorial District. He said the information was relayed to him by retired Brigadier General Sagir Musa.
According to the account, the retired senior officer and his wife were kidnapped while travelling through Katsina State, specifically around Matazu LGA, en route to Katsina town. Their driver reportedly escaped with a gunshot wound.
The message also noted that the vehicle used for the trip, a red Peugeot 504, was later found parked at the Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.
As of the time of this report, neither security authorities in Katsina State nor the Defence Headquarters had issued an official confirmation or statement regarding the incident.
Major General Rabe Abubakar previously served as Director of Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters, the military’s public relations and media office. He was appointed in 2015 and held the position until 2017.
The development adds to ongoing security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, where kidnapping incidents continue to be reported despite continued security operations.
