Armed attackers invaded Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele community, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday morning, abducting the school principal and several students in a raid that also left a teacher injured.
The incident occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., according to a confirmation from the Oyo State Police Command. The principal, identified as Mrs. Rachael Alamu, was taken alongside an unspecified number of students whose exact figure remains under verification.
Police said the attackers entered the school premises during school hours, moved through the compound, and left with the victims in the principal’s vehicle before heading into a nearby forest corridor bordering the community.
A teacher was shot during the attack. Authorities have not confirmed the extent of the injury.
Residents reported that the armed group operated for several minutes without confrontation. Some locals attributed the delayed response to the distance between the community and the nearest police facility.
Security forces have begun search-and-rescue operations following the deployment of tactical units ordered by the state police leadership. Officials have not confirmed any contact with the abductors or whether ransom demands have been made.
Ahoro-Esinele, a rural settlement within Oriire LGA, has experienced increased concern over security in recent times, as the latest incident adds to a series of school-targeted abductions recorded across parts of Nigeria.
As of the time of this report, the whereabouts of the principal and students remain unknown.
