An 18-seater passenger bus was intercepted on Wednesday along the Kabba–Okene Road in Kogi State, with all occupants taken away by armed men.
The vehicle was travelling past the area near Kogi State University when it was stopped by attackers described as heavily armed. The assailants forced the bus to halt and moved all passengers into a nearby forest. The bus was left at the scene.
Local reports indicate the incident occurred shortly after the bus passed Kabba. The abandoned vehicle remained where it was last seen, while the passengers’ whereabouts were still unknown at the time of reporting.
The Kabba–Okene corridor, a major route linking parts of Kogi State, has recorded repeated security incidents in recent years, raising concerns among commuters who rely on the highway for intercity travel.
Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement on the attack or confirm any rescue efforts.
In a related development, a serving officer of the Nigeria Police Force, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police Sunday Idakwo, was killed while on duty along the Lokoja–Abuja Expressway.
Security sources said he was attached to the Federal Capital Territory Command’s Safer Highway Patrol unit when armed robbers opened fire during an encounter on the road. He died at the scene.
The Lokoja–Abuja corridor remains one of the country’s high-risk highways, with repeated attacks on security personnel and travellers reported over time.
