President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he was surprised the opposition party was still in existence and should be allowed to "die totally."
Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of a road project in the Gaduwa District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Reacting to the emergence of a PDP candidate in a recent election, the Senate President questioned the relevance of the party and urged the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to stop keeping it alive.
“I didn’t know there was still PDP. I am sure he is somewhere, and so many other distinguished senators, members of the working committee of the APC. Wike, stop confusing us. If a party has died, allow it to die,” Akpabio said.
He added that he had no interest in discussing the PDP's affairs.
“So, members of the working committee, I won’t discuss anything on the working committee of the PDP. Like I said, anything that has died has died,” he stated.
Akpabio also used the occasion to commend Wike for what he described as his outstanding performance as FCT minister, saying the pace of development in Abuja had impressed many Nigerians.
“In the meantime, my dear brother, the Minister of the FCT, the performing Minister of the FCT, who has made his predecessors look like they came to Abuja to drink tea, all these things they are doing, I can tell you, people are baffled. You and the President are performing miracles here,” Akpabio said.
